Avengers Infinity War is already tearing up the box office as millions flock to see the stellar set of superheros battle it out.
The movie took hundreds of millions at the box office in its opening weekend. So it’s pretty likely the makers, Marvel Studios – who are owned by Disney – will be breaking even. That said, the film features an eye-watering number of very expensive Hollywood talents, bone-rattling special effects, and a promotional campaign that grabbed the indifferent by the throat and squeezed until they were all squawking ‘biggest crossover event in cinema history’. All this considered, how expensive was Infinity War to make?
Infinity War is first of two Avengers movies wrapping up ‘every storyline’ in every Marvel movie from Iron Man until now. The second will arrive next year. Its cast includes around three-dozen ‘big names’, including Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Pratt. The budget of the movie – mostly shot in Britain – was, according to The Wall Street Journal, close to $300 million, which is £218 million.
